Patrice
It`s his world. He was born in the fifties and brought up by his mother Daisy. His father had left home and deserted from the Gordon Highlanders six months into his national service. The day before Patrice was born his mothers premium bond number came up. This gave her the chance to fulfil a lifelong ambition and open up Bennachie`s first hairdresser`s shop Curl Up And Dye. Patrice now takes care of his mother who is bedridden and stays in the flat above the shop, it`s a Norman Bates relationship. Patrice`s life revolves round Daisy and the shop, he is a millennium man with 1970s ideas but deep in the crevices of his mind he realises he may be different in many ways.
Daisy
Mother of Patrice, hardly ever seen only heard. She's a chronic alcoholic and hypochondriac who never leaves her bed. Constantly knocking on the floor to her son in the shop below, her world is Patrice, her Press & Journal, the TV and horse racing.
Nigel
Best friend and flatmate of Patrice and slightly less camp. Nige' is also his number one stylist. The pair are attracted to one another but have stuck to their agreement when they moved into the flat that they would remain celibate friends.
Bazil (Big Baz)
The oldest apprentice in the trade! He has been an apprentice since 1972 and has failed to pass a single exam. Patrice keeps him on the payroll because of his faith that he will come good one day. He has been banned from cutting and blowing but is allowed to make tea and coffee, answer the phone, sweep up and run errands. He is not thick but he thinks stupid.
